It's great when the students are gone for break. I read a whole book today, with a big chunk of it completed at work.
This book is told from the perspective of a 14 year old girl who gets murdered. Parts of the book are simply heartbreaking, while the overall message seems hopefully. There are some interesting perspectives on the afterlife, which (for me) range from probable to impossible. Sebold's notion of individual heavens that overlap with other people's individual heavens is intriguing, and her observations of those left behind are stimulating. If you can handle some grief and feel up to contemplating existential themes, I recommend this book.
